I Am Thinking of EVE

Collaborative project by Yalda Eskandari and Siavash Hamidi, Eugene, Oregon 2025

I Am Thinking of EVE

I am thinking of the dictionary.

I am thinking of the pronunciation.

I am thinking of the pronoun.

I am thinking of gender.

The gender of bodies, the gender of words.

Is nature female? What about land?

I am thinking of the dictionary.

I am looking for a word: female.

I find feminine, and very close to it, famine.

I am thinking of a female body that does not give birth.

I am thinking of a land that does not feed an apple tree.

I am thinking of apples.

I am thinking of books.

I am thinking of “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

I am thinking of the conversation between the Serpent and Eve, when he offered

words instead of rules.

I am thinking of rules.

I am thinking of words.

I am thinking of pleasure—the pleasure of looking at The Luncheon on the Grass.

I am thinking of the naked woman who is staring at us.

I am thinking: what if Manet or God could both be women, could both be

feminists?

I Am Thinking of Eve is a collaborative project by Yalda Eskandari and Siavash Hamidi. Working separately—Eskandari in Eugene, Oregon, creating the video component, and Hamidi in Tehran, Iran, composing the sound from natural environments—the artists explore the intersections between nature, the female body, and their ties to collective memory and the historical origins of shared stories.
